To escape the summer heat, besides heading to the mountains, exploring underground is also a uniquely refreshing choice. Netizen Huang Xiaoling shared on the “Travel is Super Fun!” community about a natural sea erosion cave in Keelung. The cave landscape, resembling a movie scene, leaves visitors in awe. Stepping inside, you can feel bursts of cool air, making it perfect for an underground adventure on a stuffy summer afternoon!

Located beneath the cliffs on the northwest side of Keelung Harbor, Xianyan Rock is a natural sea erosion cave formed through tens of thousands of years of seawater erosion, creating its unique cave landscape. Walking further up the stone staircase trail next to Xianyan Rock, you’ll reach another cave called “Buddha’s Hand Cave.” To enter, you first have to bend down and crawl through the large rock at the entrance—the dark opening adds to the adventurous atmosphere.

Inside Buddha’s Hand Cave, you’ll see various passages leading in different directions. Huang Xiaoling noted that each passage leads to its own hidden world, and you might even spot a few bats along the way. Inside the cave, signs are marked on the rock walls—just follow the indicators to explore freely. The cave’s peculiar and ever-changing interior landscapes are full of surprises, and the naturally weathered palm-shaped patterns and five-toed joints on the rock walls are especially unique, which also inspired the name “Buddha’s Hand Cave.”

Once a little-known site, Buddha’s Hand Cave has attracted many curious visitors after the government built pathways, installed lighting, and improved the surrounding scenery, becoming one of Taiwan’s rare cave exploration hidden gems. Huang Xiaoling also recommends visiting nearby attractions such as Xianyan Rock, the Harbor Construction Monument, and the Bai Mi Dong Fort for a unique one-day itinerary in Keelung.
