A popular fish-centric restaurant in Yilan that feels just like home-cooked meals!

Dog Crazy Restaurant has already gained some fame in Yilan. It originally opened near Yilan University before relocating to its current spot next to the Cultural Center — it's been around for quite a while, but I never had the chance to try it until now!! This time, I finally got to taste their fish dishes, and they truly live up to the reputation!! The fish dishes are absolutely fantastic!! But if the ambiance could be just a bit better, it would be perfect.

The current location is behind the big lawn at Yilan Cultural Center. This area used to be a bubble tea shop, which holds many fond memories for students of Yilan High School and Lanyang Girls' High School.

The name is interesting — Go Home — so the owners emphasize that their cooking is very homestyle.

The restaurant environment

Some parts of the decor and the atmosphere here really give off a very "homey" vibe!! The furnishings are very casual and laid-back XD

The kitchen is right next to the dining area, and although there’s a glass partition, the aroma of the cooking still wafts through the air.

The dishes here are most famous for their fish preparations!! There’s also a dining notice posted!! Haha!! Probably based on past experiences with overly demanding customers.

The menu!! Yes, that’s what the staff gave us that day!! It features mostly fish dishes, mainly steamed or pan-fried!! For a restaurant, they offer quite a variety of fish choices, so we ordered salmon and yellow croaker!! We also saw other meat dishes on the table, so they probably do offer them, just not during our dinner visit. As for regular meat set meals, the prices are around 200 NTD, making them fairly affordable!!

Each meal here consists of one main dish + side dishes + rice + soup (self-serve).

This is the side dish portion for one person!! Green beans, dried tofu, steamed egg, and cabbage — it’s a bit like a set meal!! But no dessert or drink!! The flavors of the sides are quite home-style!

The salmon!! It’s pan-fried to perfection!! Golden and crispy on the outside, yet tender and juicy inside!! It must be made with high-quality salmon!! The freshness is top-notch!! Delicious.

This is the yellow croaker!! Yellow croaker from Matsu used to be very famous!! Nowadays, most are likely farmed in seawater!! But it’s still a pretty good fish.

This piece of yellow croaker is also pan-fried to a nice golden brown!! The flesh is delicate and tasty!! Really delicious!! It’s rare to see a whole family dining here, and many were moms!! Gaining the approval of moms means their cooking skills are definitely solid, and the fish quality is excellent too.

Although we didn’t find the dining environment all that great, the food here is genuinely appealing!!
