TRA cancels round-trip ticket discounts for Puyuma and Taroko trains, effective November 10

The Taiwan Railways Administration announced that starting November 10, 2014 (based on transaction date),it will cancel the 10% discount on round-trip tickets for Puyuma and Taroko trains (new Tze-Chiang Limited Express services), including any leg of the journey (either outbound or return) taken on a new Tze-Chiang Limited Express. Discounts on other Tze-Chiang Limited Express trains remain at 10% for round-trip tickets.

The TRA stated that the discount cancellation aims to alleviate excessive crowding on new Tze-Chiang Limited Express services (Puyuma and Taroko trains), encourage passengers to opt for other Tze-Chiang Limited Express trains, and achieve better passenger distribution. After implementation, passengers purchasing round-trip tickets for new Tze-Chiang Limited Express services via online credit card payment will also no longer be eligible for the 10% round-trip discount, but will still receive a 5% discount for online credit card payments.

To protect the rights of passengers who have already purchased tickets, those who booked round-trip tickets and completed ticket collection or online payment before November 9, 2014, will retain their discount benefits if they apply for itinerary changes or ticket exchanges, even if any part of the journey (full trip or any single leg) involves travel on a new Tze-Chiang Limited Express.
