Kaohsiung Light Rail Begins Trial Runs; Open to Public for Visits from November 9 to 16

The first train of the nation's first "Kaohsiung Circular Mass Rapid Transit Light Rail" has begun trial runs today (November 9). Mayor Chen Chu announced that the Kaohsiung Light Rail has reached a new milestone, and it will be open to the public for visits from now until November 16.
The first phase of the circular light rail section is approximately 8.7 kilometers long, with a total project cost of NT$5.679 billion. It is planned to have 36 stations and one depot. The train is about 34 meters long and 2.65 meters wide, with a capacity of around 250 passengers. It adopts a 100% low-floor design and a catenary-free system to create a user-friendly riding environment. The route starts at the Qianzhen Depot, connecting to Kaixuan New District, Dream Mall, Kaohsiung Software Technology Park, Asia New Bay Area, and Pier-2 Art Center, ending at the MRT Xiziwan Station.

Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu stated that the Kaohsiung Light Rail is 22.1 kilometers in total length, with an overall project budget of about NT$16.5 billion. The entire line adopts the world’s latest catenary-free system, minimizing the impact on urban landscapes while fully preserving the beautiful and open skyline. It also features a 100% low-floor car design, allowing seamless boarding and alighting with the platform, making it convenient for seniors and people with disabilities to enter and exit the train.
Regarding the train cars, each side of the train is equipped with four doors, each 1.3 meters wide. The interior design is simple and fresh, and the arrangement and quantity of seats and handrails are planned according to passengers' travel habits. The train will be open to the public for visits from now until 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on the 16th.
