British travel writer: Taipei may not be the most beautiful city, but its charm has won me over

Taiwan has once again made it onto the international media scene. This time, the British newspaper “The Independent” published an article by travel writer Megan Evans introducing Taiwan. She believes that while Taipei may not be the most beautiful city, she was completely captivated by its charm during her short two-day trip.

Evans titled her piece"Dig a little deeper for the charms of Taipei"to introduce Taipei. Upon first arriving, Evans found the streets of Taipei filled with neon lights and advertising signs, and thought Taipei wasn’t a particularly beautiful city. But after a good night’s sleep, the delicious xiaolongbao at Din Tai Fung and some local beer completely cured her jet lag.

Besides Din Tai Fung, Evans also visited a Mexican restaurant on Zhongxiao East Road recommended by a friend, sampled street food in Ximending, hung out at open-air cafés, and enjoyed drinks at an American-style bar on Qingcheng Street. Of course, she didn’t miss Shilin Night Market, where she was impressed by countless food stalls, cheap sock shops, lots of Hello Kitty merchandise, and the “Big Bird Toast.”

On the night before leaving Taiwan, Evans went to a hot spring resort in Beitou, where the mineral-rich waters warmly soothed her, making her feel as if she were in heaven.
