The Forestry Bureau announced on the 14th,that a bird-loving photographer captured a Baer’s Pochard wearing a “nose ring” on the south dike of the Aoju Wetland Forest Park on November 10. The Baer’s Pochard found this time was wearing a green-background, white-lettered nose ring marked with the code DX, which is a marking used exclusively for the release of Anatidae species by the Xingkai Lake National Nature Reserve in Heilongjiang Province, China..

It has been confirmed by the Chinese Wild Bird Federation to be a Baer’s Pochard released by the Xingkai Lake National Nature Reserve in Heilongjiang Province, China, on October 7, 2013. This is the first time such a bird has appeared at Aoju Wetland since the previous record of a Baer’s Pochard migrating from Heilongjiang, China, to Taiwan, which was found on December 12, 2013, at the Waterfowl Ecological Education Park in Guantian District, Tainan City.

The Aoju Wetland Forest Park is primarily positioned around “wetland conservation” and “environmental education,” integrating planning concepts across four major dimensions: sustainable development, ecological value, educational significance, and demonstration functions. When it won the Professional Category First Prize in the Analysis and Planning Field from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) in 2011, the ASLA jury pointed out that in addition to landscape planning considerations, the Aoju Wetland Forest Park also takes into account issues such as global migratory bird routes.

【Aoju Wetland】
Located to the west of Aogu Village, Dongshi Township, Chiayi, formed by the alluvial deposits of the Beigang River and the Liujiao Drainage, the area covers approximately 1,500 hectares. The park features a rich diversity of natural areas including paddy fields, upland fields, windbreak forests, mangroves, grass marshes, freshwater swamps, saltwater swamps, muddy tidal flats, and intertidal zones... It was approved by the Council of Agriculture in December 2008 (Year 97 of the Republic of China) and designated as a “Wildlife Refuge,” making it the largest wetland area in the country to date.
