Yokohama Anpanman Museum – Wholesome Fun That Even Adults Can’t Resist

For family-friendly travel, it’s essential to pick spots that are most suitable for kids. Although I rarely watch Anpanman cartoons, the kids are certainly no strangers to the characters. When we told them about visiting the Anpanman Museum during our trip, both children were brimming with excitement.

We spotted the adorable Anpanman signboard as soon as we approached the museum, making us eager to step inside.

There were already plenty of visitors inside when we arrived in the morning.

Shopping Street
The outer area is lined with shops, including toy stores, clothing boutiques, bakeries, and more. Events are often held in the central plaza on weekends. Due to time constraints, we could only visit a few.

Wow, stepping inside feels like a kid’s paradise – it’s nothing but toys, and you might find yourself wondering how to choose what to buy.

Of course, there are also some adorable themed foods, like these cute egg cakes that give off a delightful aroma, tempting me to make a purchase.

Kids’ Play Area
Vincent, seeing so many toys to play with, dashed straight in without hesitation and had a blast in this zone, which is also great for toddlers.

This place probably has the most comprehensive selection of Anpanman-related toys and merchandise.

From baby food to diapers, baby products, or even crayons for older kids... you can find everything here.

Anpanman pajamas
The cute yukata (bathrobe) looked really tempting at first glance, and they come in both girls’ and boys’ styles, but when I saw the price tag I had to give up — couldn’t bring myself to buy it, especially since you have to get two sets at once.

Hair clips and coin purses are pretty good gifts for little girls, featuring all kinds of character designs. Surprisingly, Germs Man (Bacteria Man) is the most popular.

Next to the entrance is the Anpanman restaurant, though it’s not yet mealtime.

Can’t wait to get in? The entrance and ticket counter are this way.

The tickets are shaped like arrows. Kids under elementary school age get a free souvenir — an Anpanman rattle — and tickets are 1,500 yen for both adults and children. Wasn’t I just going in to take photos?! Same price anyway.

The museum has about three floors with a planned route and signs to guide you. You start by taking the elevator to the third floor and then explore your way down.

The ticket-checking lady at the entrance is very patient with kids.

Staff occasionally dress up as cartoon characters and walk around interacting with the kids for photos — they seem very professional and know how to pose for great shots.

Once you’re here, kids just seem to let loose, exploring the play equipment and toys on their own — no need for adults to worry at all.

Lots of large character plush toys — kids of course rush to take photos with them.

Character lineup — you might not recognize them all. Can you name every single one? I’m pretty bad, I only know Anpanman and Toastman…

These days you don’t see Anpanman cartoons very often, so even the kids only recognize Anpanman… haha.

Take a closer look at the insect world through Anpanman’s eyes using a magnified view.

This must be a scene from the cartoon too. It’s protected by acrylic on the outside, making it pretty hard to photograph.

Take a train to go on a trip.

Want to eat pot noodle? The owner will cook it fresh for you. It’s basically a giant make-believe cooking toy, so much fun.

Want noodles? Of course you have to cook them yourself.

You have to wash the fish before eating it — educational and entertaining equipment.

Drive around the streets.

The museum offers DIY workshops, which are a popular attraction. It’s best to sign up as soon as you enter to give your kids plenty of time to enjoy the experience.

There are currently four “Anpanman Museums” in Japan, located in Sendai, Kobe, Yokohama, and Fukuoka.

Naturally, we rushed straight to Vincent the toy first. This area also has all kinds of play equipment that kids can freely use—even toys for babies are available.

Cartoon theater
Here you can take the opportunity to revisit the Anpanman cartoon episodes—they play continuously. If your feet get tired, this is also a great place to rest.

There are always staff members stationed under the rainbow slide to watch over the kids’ safety. This thoughtful arrangement really puts parents at ease.

Costumed characters appear from time to time to have fun with the visitors.

Super soft and bouncy big-head play area
In the outdoor space set up in the corner on the first floor, you can see a dozen or so giant Anpanman heads rolling around on the ground—it’s super fun. The big-head balloons can be tossed or bopped however you like.

Kids keep repeatedly playing on the slide, climbing up and down—so busy. It’s truly an effective way to tire them out.

When we met Jam Uncle, we had to shake hands with him.

The first floor displays the bread, while the second floor is the seating area. Each character-shaped bread is incredibly realistic and adorable, but they must be eaten the same day as they don’t keep well. The prices are also not very budget-friendly, so we picked a few to try.

Every single bread is just adorable—it’s so hard to choose which one to get.

It’s seriously too cute. No wonder when it first opened, there were lines just to buy bread from the shop.

Each one is made so realistically, it’s almost heartbreaking to take a bite.

The main character is extremely lifelike—the Anpanman is filled with red bean paste, and it actually tastes pretty good. We also bought the cream-flavored one, which was also delicious, though the price is a bit steep.

Even the juice and milk come with Anpanman designs. VINCENT immediately picked one, but later realized they’re actually cheaper at the supermarket...

For adults inside the museum, the only job is to take tons of photos. Every corner is super photogenic—it’s a great spot for photos. The Anpanman Museum is truly a place where women will go crazy shopping and kids won’t want to leave. Everything is unbearably cute, everything is great to buy—you’ll want to take it all home.
