China Airlines unveils new-generation lounge, continuing 777 aesthetic style

China Airlines officially launched its new-generation lounge at Terminal 1 of Taoyuan Airport today (14th), continuing the NexGen style of the airline’s new 777-300ER aircraft. Blending culture, art, and modern design, the lounge was designed by renowned designer Chen Rui-xian, also incorporating Song Dynasty aesthetics. The lounge even features local delicacies such as bubble tea and beef noodle soup.

Located on the fourth floor of the restricted area in Terminal 1 of Taoyuan Airport, China Airlines’ new-generation lounge covers 330 ping (approx. 1,089 m²) and offers 222 seats. It includes facilities such as VIP suites, a lounge reading area, an internet zone, a nap room, a dining area, and a tea bar. The lounge also provides thoughtful amenities like private showers, a nursing room, and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout. China Airlines also operates another lounge in Terminal 2 of Taoyuan Airport and the Mei Yuan Lounge, which opened last year. These lounges offer 242 and 65 seats respectively. In total, the three lounges provide more spacious and comfortable services for first and business class passengers, China Airlines’ Dynasty Diamond, Jade, and Gold card members, as well as SkyTeam Elite Plus members.

The new-generation lounge at Terminal 1 of Taoyuan Airport is the first in a China Airlines lounge to feature a five-star hotel partnership, collaborating with Novotel to offer a variety of Chinese and Western cuisines as well as Taiwanese snacks. There are 10 types of specialty noodles available, including Shanghai-style dry-tossed noodles and beef noodle soup. Freshly shaken “bubble tea” is also available, allowing travelers who love authentic Taiwanese flavors to enjoy chewy tapioca pearls and richly milky tea before their flight. Additionally, there is a selection of Taiwan’s finest teas, such as Alishan oolong, Longjing (Dragon Well), and Oriental Beauty, allowing passengers to take the sweetness of tea with them on board.
After nearly half a year of design and renovation, the new lounge at Terminal 1 of Taoyuan Airport was created by NexGen brand designer Chen Rui-xian, establishing a new aesthetic space. Inspired by Song Dynasty aesthetics and Jiangnan garden landscapes, the design takes cues from the Suzhou Master-of-Nets Garden. The space is divided into zones based on different functions—such as reading and resting areas—and features the airport lounge industry’s first full natural-light plant wall. It also draws inspiration from the corridor concept of Suzhou’s Canglang Pavilion, using modern techniques to blend nature and Jiangnan garden styles. Elements include hand-carved solid wood doors by master craftsman San Yi, granite from Hualien, paired with leather tabletops and velvet sofas. This successfully merges classical tradition with modern aesthetics, creating a cozy atmosphere rich in cultural creativity.
