Tourism isn’t just a distant dream anymore—The Landis Taipei launches the “Homeless Youth Self-Sufficiency Program.”

In recent years, Taiwan’s tourism industry has flourished, with the hospitality sector becoming the dream career for many students. Meanwhile, vulnerable youth who have lost their homes in society need even more support. This year, marking its 35th anniversary, The Landis Group—comprising The Eurest Catering and six sister hotels—has joined forces with the Chinese Christian Social Welfare Association (CCSA) to co-create the “Homeless Youth Self-Sufficiency Program,” offering young people interested in the hotel and catering industry a chance at a “full interview,” aiming to help build their confidence in employment.

Wang Pen-jen, General Manager of Hotel Operations at The Landis Group, said that the “Homeless Youth Self-Sufficiency Program” provides vocational counseling, job opportunities, dormitory accommodations, and meals for self-reliant youth. For those interested in tourism and F&B, the program offers “full interviews”—every young person who submits a résumé from the institutions will be granted an interview. Wang further explained that the program will begin with a pre-employment experience camp in December, followed by job matchmaking starting in January next year. Although the group has limited vacancies, they hope to build the youths’ confidence through the interview process or any interaction, as well as provide practical advice and guidance.

From now until February 28, 2015, a charity fundraising campaign will be launched simultaneously across all Landis Hotel System properties and The Eurest Catering outlets. The six hotels within the Landis system, with a total of 876 rooms, will place charity donation envelopes in each room daily, distributing nearly 90,000 envelopes in total. Additionally, 29 donation boxes will be set up in restaurants and external food and beverage brands to create the most convenient and immediate donation channels. All proceeds will go toward supporting the CCSA’s efforts to help homeless children and youth become self-reliant.
