Norway's new passport is super cool — stunning auroras appear under UV light

Norway has recently unveiled the results of its new passport design competition, and they're amazing — under natural ultraviolet light, the passports reveal aurora colors.

According toCNN reports, this new passport concept was proposed by Oslo-based Neue Design Studio. Its exterior maintains the classic Nordic "minimalist" style, while the interior draws inspiration from Norwegian landscapes, including snow-capped peaks and fjords. When the inner pages are exposed to natural light, customs officers can see the beautiful Nordic aurora, turning the passport from a simple ID document into a tourism promotion tool. Two other colors are designated for different user groups: the blue version is for diplomatic passports, and the gray one is for immigration use.

Designers at NEUE said their creation responds to the Norwegian National Police Directorate’s request for “excellent design quality and a unique concept.” In addition to aesthetics, they also enhanced the document’s security.
