Previously, we shared15 items you shouldn’t pack in your suitcase, and this time the world’s most authoritative travel pioneer magazineCondé Nast TravelerU.S. edition also shares 10 packing mistakes you should never make.
1. Using the wrong bag
The type of bag you use can vary depending on your destination, and a rolling suitcase isn’t always the best choice for every trip.
2. Packing too much
If you plan to do a lot of shopping on your trip, remember to leave some space in your suitcase for the souvenirs you’ll bring back.

3. Forgetting your swimsuit
No matter the climate of your travel destination, if your hotel has a pool with city views or a relaxing spa, forgetting your swimsuit might leave you sighing at those water features.
4. Don’t forget “multi-purpose” clothing
Some travelers rely on neck pillows for sleep during long flights, but thicker clothing or outerwear can actually help you pack lighter.
5. Not bringing enough underwear
If you’re traveling to the jungle, hiking, or other remote areas, you might not be able to buy more easily (and even hand-washed items may not dry quickly)—it’s best to pack enough underwear for the duration of your trip.

Bright-colored clothes show dirt easily, so remember to pack some dark-colored clothing as well. Dark colors are also more versatile for unexpected formal occasions.
7. Not preparing enough clothes for varying weather
“Weather” is one of the most unpredictable factors in travel, so travelers should check the local forecast in advance and pack accordingly.
8. Not packing shoes in shoe bags
Packing shoes in bags helps protect your other belongings and prevents dirt from the soles from getting on your clean clothes. Some brands even include dedicated shoe bags—you can also use them to store small essentials.
9. Packing clothes for every occasion
Pack clothes that are comfortable, stylish, and versatile enough to suit various situations—this way, you won’t have to drag around an overly heavy suitcase. Also, remember to pack at least one essential, go-to jacket.
10. Traveling with a bad attitude
You might encounter some troubles or delays during your trip (like lost luggage or flight delays), but a bad attitude won’t help solve the problem—in fact, being friendly increases the likelihood of getting help from others.
