Ending in the sea!? Norway’s most dangerous road connects to an Atlantic island

Located on Norway’s Atlantic Ocean Road, the Storseisundet Bridge is dubbed the “drunk bridge” by locals. According to the UK’s Daily MailReportit is one of the most dangerous bridges in the world. On good weather days, drivers can enjoy breathtaking views of the Atlantic coastline; but in bad weather, strong winds and huge waves can almost blow vehicles off the road and into the sea.

This bridge spans the Norwegian Sea at a height of about 260 meters. Due to an optical illusion created by its angle, many people think the bridge “ends in the sea.” It’s hard to imagine that at such a height, there is absolutely no barrier between the road and the Atlantic Ocean.

The “drunk bridge” is now 25 years old. It serves as a key link via the Atlantic Ocean Road to the archipelago and is an important tourist destination in Norway. Of course, there are also many famous attractions along the way, such as the Kvernes Stave Church, the Bremsnes Cave, and numerous popular fishing spots.

According to data from the National Tourist Board, construction was halted six times over a six-year period due to 12 hurricanes and severe weather. In 2013, an Israeli tourist accidentally fell into the sea while admiring the scenery by the roadside.

The extreme geographical and climatic dangers do not diminish people’s curiosity. Thanks to its publicity, it still attracts thousands of travelers from around the world every year. At the same time, it has been voted one of the “greatest road trips.”
