Its living-space-inspired design weaves together marble chessboard floors and old suitcases repurposed as tables. A fusion of retro culture and creativity offers a unique experience—not as spacious as an old-house café, but with its own quiet charm.

Taichung - Red Dot Cultural & Creative Hotel
Dubbing itself “the coolest hotel on Earth,” it features a 27-meter-long stainless steel slide embedded in the lobby, a 360-degree artwork winding from the second floor to the first-floor public space. Surrounded by red-brick walls and recreations of bricks from the Sanhe Kiln, it draws inspiration from shared memories of the 1970s. The rooms incorporate local Taiwanese cultural and creative colors, sparking conversation right after its opening this year.

Nantou - Sky Yard
Known as “Taiwan’s most beautiful homestay,” Sky Yard is located in a tranquil spot on a mountain in Zhushan. Transformed from a traditional courtyard home, this lodging has miraculously created a new cultural concept in a declining town. The quilts, soaps, fruits, and vegetables provided are all locally sourced from Zhushan. While its prices are relatively higher, the weekday rate for a double room is about NT$3,500.

Tainan - Jia Jia Xiaonantian
Playfully dubbed “the most disappointing for men” among Tainan’s hotels, this place primarily targets female travelers, offering them a safer and more independent space. It features illustrations of seven famous flowers with feminine touches, creating a happy and soft ambiance. From the moment guests check in, they receive special gifts tailored for women, while the room design and sense of privacy offer a strong feeling of safety.

Tainan - Arangee Apartment
A 90-year-old historic house guesthouse in downtown Tainan, nearly 90 years old, combines vintage architecture with Japanese Arangee illustrations, preserving the original interior structure. The first floor is a café, while the second and third floors are lodging spaces, attracting many families.

Kaohsiung - Single INN
Based on the concept of “traveling alone,” it’s designed for solo stays, inspired by Japan’s capsule hotels and Korea’s jjimjilbang. When it entered Taiwan three years ago, it caused a stir among backpackers. With minimalist design, each room offers MUJI bedding and bed frames, along with a 28-inch LCD TV, towels, toiletries, pajamas, and pants.

Kaohsiung - Pengpeng House
An amusing stay where you pitch tents indoors, Pengpeng House plays with a unique spatial concept. As Taiwan’s first refined indoor camping area, its website states: “Even if we have boundless nature outdoors, we only seek 1.5 cubic meters of safety, quiet, and cleanliness.” Though bathrooms are shared, Pengpeng House still provides guests with a private accommodation environment—an unusual experience.

Hualien - Colorful "Pipe House"
A unique homestay located in Ji'an Township, Hualien County, recently built three distinctive pipe houses, with cartoon graffiti painted on their exterior walls, creating a one-of-a-kind and novel appearance. They purchased the largest-sized culverts used in underground engineering and transformed them into rooms, with student part-timers who know how to paint helping with the graffiti, attracting attention from many travelers.

Hualien - Just Sleep
