2014 Tainan Christmas Light Festival – Five New 3-Meter-Tall “Sword Lion Guardians” Added

The Sword Lion symbolizes warding off evil and protecting peace, and has been one of the key iconic images used to promote Tainan tourism in recent years. This time, five Sword Lion Guardians representing the elements of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth—each standing 3 meters tall—have been created by Zhigang Metal Co., Ltd. Before announcing their display locations and holding the lighting ceremony, a naming contest was launched, inviting the public to help name these five impressive Sword Lion Guardians.

The Sword Lion Guardians will be on display until March 5, 2016. To welcome their arrival, the Tainan Tourism Bureau has arranged high-level security measures, including special insurance coverage, installation of surveillance cameras, and hiring of security patrols. The display locations will be announced next week. Visitors are also urged to respect the no-touching rule during the exhibition. At the same time, everyone is encouraged to get creative and suggest names for the five guardians. The naming contest ends on Sunday, December 7. Participants can leave their suggestions on the “Tainan Travel” Facebook page. From all entrants who vote in the poll, ten lucky winners will be drawn. In addition, those who submit the selected names for the five guardians will also receive Tainan gourmet souvenirs.
