This 【Mom Goose Roast Goose on Xitun Road】 is truly a place we revisit every month — it’s just that sometimes we think about taking photos of the grandma here, and we worry she might get startled XD, so we just keep coming to eat without sharing it with everyone yet. But it’s currently my favorite roast goose spot in Taichung, haha!!
The traffic on Xitun Road is actually quite heavy, and this stretch is only a one-lane road. Buses also run here to Fengjia at night, so parking is not very convenient. But for us locals who mostly ride motorcycles when going out at night, it’s the perfect spot for a convenient dinner. The soft yellow lighting, the two grandmas always bustling around the cooking station, no fancy signboard, but it’s the most charming street-side snack spot.

But I must also say that 【Mom Goose Roast Goose on Xitun Road】 has had a slight price increase. I remember side dishes used to be around 35 NT$ or so!! XD Once you step into the shop, just look up and you can start thinking about what you want to eat, then someone will come take your order. You can get the crispy intestine and rice blood cake either in soup or dry style — we prefer the dry version. That’s because we usually order a tangy angelica noodle soup as well XD

The portion of rice blood cake is quite generous, and the minced pork topping is lean — which I like. The same minced pork also appears in the dry noodles, and I really love the dry noodles at 【Mom Goose Roast Goose on Xitun Road】, though I must say the portion isn’t very big. The roast goose here is absolutely classic. It’s not greasy, not too salty, and the fragrant juices of the goose meat are truly addictive from the first bite. For dinner, we usually order about a hundred NT$ worth of small portions to go with it.

Laid out on very traditional glass plates, with rims decorated in that grandma-tier ceramic pattern, the juice of the roast goose seeps into the grain of each slice. You’d never guess these slices are so juicy without even a hint of dryness XD
If you like spicy food, don’t miss out on this tiny little pile below — a ‘seemingly plain’ sauce that’ll get you hooked after just one dip. It’s just soy sauce, chili, and chopped scallions, but it’s seriously so good you won’t want to stop. Before you know it, you’ll be dipping the rice blood cake, crispy intestines, and roast goose into it, and even picking up the scallions that have been soaking in the soy sauce to pop into your mouth. That’s how obsessed I get...

The angelica noodles — I really love the angelica soup at 【Mom Goose Roast Goose on Xitun Road】. One sip and you feel all cozy and nourished like your mom just took care of you. And the noodles — an absolute must — are great, though sometimes we also go for cellophane noodles.

I’m crazy about these dry noodles, but if the portion could be doubled, I think I’d love them even more. But truth be told, I’m not exactly young anymore, so I don’t need too many carbs at night, so keeping the portion small works for me. That said, I really do love the minced pork here — lean, not overly sweet, exactly my taste. The pig offal and crispy intestines are delicious too. The crispy intestines are nice and crunchy, paired with shredded ginger and a dash of chili — so satisfying.

Don’t skip the greens — definitely ask what’s fresh that day. I like spinach and water spinach, and I dread getting mainland greens XD. Tossed with a simple sauce, they’re truly addictive bite after bite. Veggies and meat together make for such a simple little bit of happiness.

I really wanted to take more photos of the grandma working hard, but I was afraid of disturbing her, and I only dared bring my trusty old GF3 camera!! XD. Sharing with everyone — this 【Mom Goose Roast Goose on Xitun Road】 that I visit every month.
