I have a flight attendant dream: China Airlines' recruitment attracts 4,000 applicants for 300 spots

With an increasing number of new aircraft, China Airlines held the final preliminary round of its flight attendant recruitment for the year today (Dec. 6) at the China Airlines campus in Taoyuan, drawing nearly 4,000 applicants. A maximum of 300 candidates will be hired, with an acceptance rate of 7.5%—the highest number of positions offered in recent years. This marks the third flight attendant recruitment drive by China Airlines this year, which has also raised English proficiency standards in hopes of providing the most welcoming service to global travelers.

China Airlines stated that to accommodate the successive introduction of 10 new 777 aircraft, a comprehensive upgrade in both hardware and software services, and the continuous growth of inbound tourists in recent years, the airline recruited 150 flight attendants in Taipei and 50 in Kaohsiung in June and September respectively. In December, it is once again recruiting up to 300 more, marking a record for consecutive recruitment waves this year. Additionally, recruitment drives were also held in Japan and South Korea this year, bringing the total number of new flight attendants introduced in 2023 to nearly 600.

This recruitment round has also raised the English proficiency threshold from the previous TOEIC score of 550 to 600 or equivalent English ability. In addition to strong language skills, applicants must demonstrate service enthusiasm, communication skills, a cheerful and optimistic personality, empathy, as well as good health and a positive work attitude. Furthermore, being multilingual or having a nursing background can also leave a strong impression on the selection panel, given that the aviation industry is an international transportation service.

Preliminary round applicants can check the results on theChina Airlines corporate websitebetween 12:00 noon on Dec. 8 and 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 10. Candidates who pass the preliminary round will be eligible to attend the second round of interviews in mid-December. Those who succeed in the second round are expected to receive training notifications in late January 2025, followed by a nine-week preliminary training program covering both air and ground subjects. After completing the initial training, they are expected to begin flying in early April, undergo a three-month flight training and probation period, and then officially become China Airlines flight attendants.
