Asia’s Only Two Sources of Blue Sulfur Springs – Beitou Fuxing Park Opens Free Foot Baths

Feeling like soaking in a hot spring during the cold weather? To meet public demand, the Taipei City Government Department of Economic Development has opened free foot baths at Beitou Fuxing Park starting December 10, allowing visitors to easily enjoy Taiwan’s only blue sulfur springs.

The hot spring foot bath pool at Fuxing Park is located within the park beside Zhonghe Street in Beitou District, near Xinbeitou MRT Station, with a maximum capacity of 100 people at the same time. The main structure features an open-style corridor design to enhance interaction between the foot bath area and other park facilities. The view of Datun Mountain while soaking your feet allows citizens to enjoy the natural ambiance and the cultural charm of Beitou.

The Department of Economic Development stated that the hot spring comes from the geothermal valley spring system and is an acidic sulfate-chloride spring — one of only two such high-quality springs in Asia (the other being Tamagawa Hot Spring in Akita Prefecture, Japan). The spring water is transparent with a bluish tint, containing sulfate ions, chloride ions, and iron ions, commonly known as “blue sulfur.” The spring temperature ranges from 50-70°C with a pH value of 1.2～1.6. The public is welcome to come and experience it.
