TRA’s special Taipei–Taitung Taroko Express trains, added from Mondays to Thursdays, will not be discontinued. Originally scheduled from September 11 to December 11, TRA announced on the 13th that, considering overall travel demand, the special service will continue from December 15 onwards on Mondays to Thursdays. While the original route was a non-stop journey from Taipei to Taitung, two new stops—Hualien and Yuli—will now be added, with no change to the total travel time.
The special trains include Taipei → Taitung service No. 5408 and Taitung → Taipei service No. 5443 Taroko Express trains. Stops include Shulin, Banqiao, Taipei, Songshan, Hualien, Yuli, and Taitung. Although Hualien and Yuli have been added as stops, the total travel time remains unchanged at 3 hours and 44 minutes, mainly because previous services would still make brief stops at Hualien and Yuli for driver changes and waiting.
