Vast fields of Yoshino cherry blossoms will soon be in full bloom. Neihu’s “Back Garden of Taipei” is set to become a new hidden gem for cherry blossom viewing.

Neihu’s Baishihu, known as the “Back Garden of Taipei,” may soon become a new hidden spot for urban cherry blossom viewing? The Taipei City Department of Civil Engineering and Water Management has recently built a cherry blossom viewing lakeside trail here and collaborated with local farmers to allow visitors to come for fruit picking, nature walks, or eco-tourism during holidays, temporarily escaping the hustle and bustle of the city.

In recent years, the Taipei City Department of Civil Engineering and Water Management has worked with farmers in the Baishihu area of Bishan Li to create a cherry blossom viewing lakeside trail near No. 49, Bishan Road, just a 15-minute drive from Neihu MRT Station. This has transformed an overgrown slope and pond into a stunning and serene hidden gem.

Huang Liyuan, head of the Department of Civil Engineering and Water Management, said that from here you can overlook Longchuan Rock, Carp Mountain, Egret Mountain, Dahu Park, and the Neihu urban area, all with beautiful scenery. In addition, the community grows healthy organic fruits and vegetables, and the upcoming December “Strawberry Season” is an annual highlight in Baishihu. Moreover, local farmers have planted vast fields of Yoshino cherry blossoms here, which are expected to bloom next Lunar New Year, making it a new hotspot for cherry blossom viewing next year.

Xia Xiantong, head of the Roads and Trails Section at the Department of Civil Engineering and Water Management, also noted that the cherry blossom trail uses a wood chip surface that is permeable and reduces environmental impact. The steps also help lessen knee strain when going up or down, allowing visitors to better connect with nature. The S-shaped elevated wooden boardwalk offers varying scenic perspectives at each turn, showcasing different natural vistas.

Additionally, local shops warmly bring the flavors of home to visitors, offering not only delicious meals but also thoughtful free services such as restrooms, guided tours, and first aid, hoping to attract more people to experience this beautiful trail.
