A Half-Asleep "Message from Beyond"? A Haunted Hot Spring Bath Experience in Japan

I still remember my trip to Ise Bay in Japan in March. The accommodation and meals arranged for me were all top-tier, making me feel completely at ease. But on the third day, when I checked into a local four-star inn, something strange happened….

The room assigned to me on the third day was again a "side room," a single occupancy arrangement that excited me but also brought a bit of unease. As usual, after knocking and announcing my presence, I slid open the fusuma door of the traditional Japanese room. What greeted me was a nearly 20-tatami-mat tatami living room, with the bedroom to the right. Walking further into the living room led to the bathroom, which had an attached hot spring. The incident took place in this very bathroom.

After a whole day of tiring interviews, I returned to the room at 10 p.m. The bathroom with a hot spring was incredibly relieving. The tub was already filled with hot spring water, and I immersed myself in this warm happiness. Before I knew it, I was so comfortable I almost fell asleep. In that dreamlike state, I seemed to have a dream.

A Japanese man in his early 30s suddenly appeared in the dream."I hanged myself in this room..."Strangely, despite only knowing basic Japanese, I could understand what he was saying. His delicate face is still deeply etched in my memory.To this day, I still don’t know whether that "dream" was just a dream or a "visit from beyond."
