Last updated 2026-09-24 — With over 20 years in the steak industry, Chef Deng has restaurants in Taipei’s Sihwei Road, Dazhi, and Xinyi District. In March this year, he made his first southern foray by opening a brand-new steakhouse, “CAPSTONE STEAKHOUSE,” in Kaohsiung. The beef is carefully selected from U.S. Prime-grade Gourmet cuts, ribeye, tenderloin, as well as Australian 7 and 9+ grade Wagyu. “The meat we use is exactly the same as in Taipei—no favoritism,” says Chef Deng.

“Steak Guru” Deng Youkui recently opened a new steakhouse in Kaohsiung called “CAPSTONE STEAKHOUSE,” where you can still enjoy the steak world’s top pick—the “Gourmet Steak.” Chef Deng especially emphasized, “The meat is exactly the same as in Taipei—no favoritism.” However, what Chef Deng didn’t specifically mention is that there are two desserts available only at the Kaohsiung branch—now possibly making Taipei diners say Chef Deng is the one being unfair.

When it comes to high-end steaks in Taiwan, few don’t know “Steak Guru” Deng Youkui. Starting out in teppanyaki, during an era when most could only access frozen beef, Chef Deng went old-school—thawing each cut individually, finely slicing, cooking, and taste-testing to build up his expertise and cultivate a loyal customer base. “I taste and compare the texture of every piece of beef; otherwise, if it’s too tough or dry when served, customers will definitely complain,” says Chef Deng.

  1. The steakhouse in Kaohsiung uses the same grade of grill as the one in Taipei.
  2. The two-person portion of the “U.S. Premium Newport Ranch Dry-Aged Ribeye Steak” offers a richer flavor than the wet-aged Gourmet steak, with ample tenderness. (Set menu main course, NT$2,980 per person)
