Handmade private home-style dishes on the old street near Tainan Confucius Temple – vegetable pancakes you won’t find elsewhere

I only found out about this super hidden gem through a friend’s check-in. Although the address is listed as being on Kaishan Road, the actual location is in the alley next to the almond tea shop on Fuzhong Street.



When you reach the entrance of the alley, you’ll see this standing sign – just follow it and you’re good to go~ Parking is pretty convenient on weekdays, but it might take a bit more time to find a spot on weekends when it’s crowded. Also, it’s recommended to make a reservation by phone in advance, otherwise you might easily find the place fully booked.

After turning into the alley, you’ll see this bright and cozy little shop after just a few steps.

The shop sign is designed with the air vent creatively incorporated into a wooden box, which fits perfectly with the store name "Cube."

The interior uses warm yellow lighting to create a cozy atmosphere, while the deliberately exposed red bricks and frame lines add a visual effect to the overall space.

There are four different dining areas in total. This is one of the smaller rooms, perfect for group gatherings as it offers a high level of privacy.

The dining area next to the counter is usually an employee break zone, but it’s opened to guests when it gets crowded.

The way the utensils are arranged is somewhat like how premium red wine is displayed – a small touch that significantly enhances the overall sense of quality.

In addition to the dishes on the menu, they occasionally introduce new items. For example, the brunch I ordered today is one of their latest additions.

The last dining space has a completely different style – the dark blue wall is intentionally painted unevenly, as if the wall itself were a canvas.

I deliberately waited until the diners inside left before coming in to capture this space properly. With minimal lighting, the area maintains a sense of mystery. It’s definitely a great place to relax at night.

The tables and chairs in each area of the shop are all slightly different, but instead of looking out of place, they add vibrancy to the whole space.

Red Sauce Q-grilled Dish

All set meals come with soup and a drink, and the price is quite reasonable considering the portion and variety. The main meal includes lightly blanched vegetable and fruit salad, sunny-side up eggs, bacon, bread, Q-grilled items, and homemade pancakes.

Highly recommend the pancakes – they taste a bit like scallion pancakes but aren’t exactly the same. They’re not as dense as scallion pancakes but have a unique texture. These are homemade by the shop – you can’t get them anywhere else~

The Red Sauce Q-grilled dish comes in a small bowl, so it’s not overly filling, and it pairs well with the bread for a satisfying meal.

I went with their fresh milk tea for the drink – you can adjust the ice level and sweetness, and it’s also quite recommended. Cube’s brunch service starts at noon and goes until evening. The Fuzhong Street area isn’t as crowded at night, and once the warm yellow street lamps are lit, it takes on another kind of beauty. Coming here for tea and snacks is also a nice way to unwind.
