I really like the area near the Cultural Center Station — there are parks and plenty of unique little shops, and it’s very pleasant to just wander around. While exploring aimlessly, I stumbled upon Huan Shi Cha, whose storefront was already quite eye-catching. It had a nostalgic vibe reminiscent of old times, and the eclectic yet charming layout reflected the shop’s personality. The menu offered both pancakes and noodles, and there were vegetarian options too, so I went there the next day.

Inside the shop, it gets even more interesting — the furniture, decorations, menu, and tableware all seem like they’re from another era. There are also several cabinets filled with vintage toys and old ornaments that are absolutely adorable. Fans of antique items could easily spend half a day admiring them. Further inside the shop, there’s a small study filled with books, along with a wooden guitar and a vinyl record player.

Dining in such an environment is perfect for taking your time and killing a few lazy hours.

I visited during afternoon tea time, so I ordered the Rice Aroma, Condensed Milk, Black Sesame, and Cheese Crepe (NT$150), plus a cup of Huan Shi Cha (NT$90), named after the shop. I’d never imagined combining rice aroma, condensed milk, black sesame, and cheese before, and I thought crepe meant French-style thin pancakes — you know, the kind with chocolate hazelnut spread in the middle.

But as it turned out,

it was a very Chinese-style crepe instead.

Between two crispy layers of crepe, there was black sesame and cheese, which you dip in condensed milk. Both the presentation and the taste were surprisingly delightful, and I found it really fun. Turns out, it tastes amazing this way.

Slowly savoring something unexpected — that’s what travel is all about.
