Led by Taipei’s Trail Experts: Explore the Tianmu Aqueduct Trails Surrounded by Forests

Where to go on weekends? How about a walk in the mountains to enjoy the cleansing power of phytoncides? Starting from next year (2015), Taipei City’s Department of Civil Engineering has planned 16 free guided tours on nature trails every weekend. Led by experienced trail guides, you can not only experience the beauty of the forests but also get close to local ecosystems and learn about cultural history.

Surrounded by mountains, the Taipei Basin has several mountain trails that not only offer views of the greater Taipei area but are also historical sites. For example, the historic Tianmu Historic Trail in Shilin District’s Shuimu Aqueduct, the Bijhu Trail in Neihu District known for its mining imagery, as well as the globally renowned Xiangshan and Hushan Trails in Xinyi District are all popular and fascinating trails.

Huang Liyuan, Director of Taipei City’s Department of Civil Engineering, stated that to encourage the public to spend their holidays getting closer to nature, starting January 17, 2015, a “small but beautiful” free guided tour will be organized every weekend, with a limit of 30 participants per session.
