High-Speed Rail Zuoying–E-DA World Taxi Carpool Service Launched: Only NT$115 per Person When 4 Ride Together

The Kaohsiung City Government’s Department of Transportation announced on the 29th that the “High-Speed Rail Zuoying Station–E-DA World” taxi carpool service will begin on January 1st of the 104th year of the Republic of China (2015). By sharing a taxi among four passengers, each person only pays NT$115. Department Director Chen Chin-fu stated that this carpool service is being trialed for six months in collaboration with the Chinese Taxi Fleet, and the public is welcome to form groups and book rides together.

The Department of Transportation stated that the carpool service operates daily from 9:30 AM to 10:30 PM. The carpool fare structure is as follows: NT$225 per person for 2 riders; NT$150 per person for 3 riders; NT$115 per person for 4 riders; NT$100 per person for 5 riders; and for the third-row passenger in a 7-seater vehicle, the fare is reduced by NT$15.(Route map shown below, provided by the Kaohsiung City Government)

E-DA Bus currently operates over 30 daily trips between High-Speed Rail Zuoying and E-DA World, with tickets priced at NT$37. The Department of Transportation is promoting the taxi carpool service, which is expected to offer benefits such as time savings, lower costs, and greater transparency and safety.

The Department of Transportation stated that the Chinese Taxi Fleet has established a mobile carpool registration system, allowing passengers wishing to use the carpool service to match rides through the system, thereby increasing the likelihood and effectiveness of carpooling (carpool URL: http://taxisharing.tbkc.gov.tw). This aims to achieve a taxi carpool service that enables resource sharing, fair fare distribution, boosts drivers’ income, and improves their livelihoods.
