After several bouts of rain, temperatures have dropped sharply. By the calendar, it’s already autumn. In summer, we admire lotus flowers, this year the daylilies are late, but as deep autumn approaches, the variety of blooms becomes even richer. From silvergrass and ginkgo to the bald cypress trees that went viral last year—all are brewing the essence of time, ready to unveil their most enchanting side to eager travelers.ETNEWS Travel Cloud has compiled a list of six essential floral sights and their estimated blooming periods from now until the end of the year. Flower enthusiasts, it’s time to start planning ahead!

1. Golden Daylilies
The hottest summer event is undoubtedly golden daylily viewing. The golden daylilies, which usually bloom in early August, will only be seen in their full golden splendor by the end of August this year. These flowers thrive at high altitudes and in sunny spots, starting to bloom from the mountaintops and gradually spreading downward. Currently, these three mountain areas are at peak bloom, expected to last until the end of September or even early October. If you want to immerse yourself in a sea of blossoms, now is the time—otherwise, you’ll have to wait until next year.

Bloom period: August to September.
Locations: Liushizhi Mountain and Chikeshan Mountain in Hualien, Taimali in Taitung.

2. Silvergrass
Silvergrass is one of the harbingers of autumn. Though not brightly colored, the sight of silvergrass covering the mountains has a unique desolate, melancholic beauty. Whether swaying in the wind or glistening in the sunlight, it creates different moods. Among them, the earliest place in northern Taiwan where silvergrass blooms is Qixing Grassland on Yangmingshan. Those who missed it before shouldn’t miss the chance to meet the silvergrass this year.

Bloom period: October to November.
Locations: Qixing Grassland, Lengshuikeng, Qixing Mountain, Yilu Ancient Trail, Sulfur Valley on Yangmingshan, Caoling Historic Trail, Buyiting, Jiufen and Jinguashi in the Northeast Coast, and Bao shi Shan. The banks of the Dahan River in New Taipei are also great spots. Heading east to Lanyang River or south to Taoyuan’s Hutou Mountain are also recommended.

3. Ginkgo
A vast sea of golden-yellow ginkgo leaves isn’t something you can only see in Japan. When it comes to ginkgo, Nantou is practically its stronghold. Taiwan’s oldest ginkgo forest is located in Xitou. The Lugu Dashan Ginkgo Forest Trail and Wuxiu Farm, situated between 1,300 to 1,600 meters above sea level, feature a mixed plantation of 50 hectares that includes ginkgo trees, making it the largest ginkgo plantation in Taiwan. Ciyun Temple in Alishan will also gradually turn yellow in late October and November.

Bloom period: October to November.
Locations: Lugu Dashan Ginkgo Forest Trail and Wuxiu Farm in Nantou, Xitou Nature Education Area, and Ciyun Temple in Alishan, Chiayi.

4. Chrysanthemum
Taiwan’s most popular spot for viewing chrysanthemums is Tongluo Township in Miaoli County. Blessed with a plateau location and plenty of sunshine, it’s ideal for chrysanthemum cultivation and is Taiwan’s largest chrysanthemum production area, yielding about 20,000 to 30,000 kilograms annually. It's the region’s most distinctive natural product. In addition to popcorn-like white chrysanthemums, there are also yellow ones to admire. The most beautiful period begins in mid-November each year.

Bloom period: Early November to early December.

5. Bald Cypress
The bald cypress, which became wildly popular last year, can grow up to 50 meters tall. Its feathery leaves gradually turn golden, amber, and red with the changing seasons, showcasing stunning gradient colors that make even casual snapshots look like they were taken abroad.

Flowering season: November and December.

Southern Taiwan: Kaohsiung Aozihdi Forest Park.

6. Maple Leaves
The highlight at the end of each year is the vibrant maple leaves, which gradually paint the forests and treetops across Taiwan in red. Depending on altitude, you can also see a mix of red and yellow foliage, set against rolling mountains and misty clouds — a truly beautiful sight.

Flowering season: Mid-November to January of the following year.
