During the four-day New Year’s holiday, Tainan’s new landmark, the Chimei Museum’s new building, officially opened to the public on the 1st. With its European-style architecture, the structure looks quite magnificent, attracting many visitors for a pilgrimage. However, if you want to enter the museum, without an online reservation in advance, you may have to line up and take your chances on-site, as the daily quota of 4,325 visitors was fully booked through reservations as early as December 2014—before the museum even opened—for the entire month of January. Reservations for February, starting from January 1, were also fully booked within just two days, with weekends and Spring Festival holidays filling up immediately as well.

Tainan’s new landmark, the Chimei Museum’s new building, officially opened to the public on the 1st. To prevent overcrowding inside the museum and ensure a good visiting experience, the museum has implemented a reservation system, controlling the number of daily visitors to around 4,325. A new batch is admitted every 15 minutes, with each batch consisting of 150 people. Although on the first day of opening, many people were unaware that they needed to “make an online reservation” in advance and ended up empty-handed at the site, the museum’s magnificent architecture and European-style sculptures still gave visitors the feeling of being abroad, attracting many to stay and take photos.

Features: A private museum established by Xu Wen-long, founder of the Chi Mei Group, primarily showcasing Western artworks. It also collects weapons, musical instruments, and animal specimens. Donated to the Tainan City Government in 2012, it officially opened on New Year’s Day this year. 
Exhibitions: Permanent exhibitions include “The Trajectory of Beauty: Western Art from the 13th to 20th Century,” “The Vastness of Life: A Journey of Evolution,” and “Inheriting and Inspiring: Rodin and His Artistic Circle.”
