Kaohsiung’s Xingda Harbor Debuts Weekend-Only “Harbor Cruise” to View the “Future Elephant” from the Sea

The large-scale art installation “Future Elephant,” which once appeared at a Mayday concert, has significantly boosted visitor numbers to Kaohsiung’s Xingda Harbor since it was installed there. Coupled with the Lover’s Wharf adorned with various love-themed installations, local operators have launched the “Xingda Harbor Harbor Cruise Blue Highway Route” starting this Saturday, offering travelers a unique perspective of the harbor’s beauty.

The Kaohsiung City Ocean Affairs Bureau stated that since the art installation “Future Elephant” settled in at Lover’s Wharf in Xingda Harbor three months ago, visitor numbers to the wharf have noticeably increased, also driving business at nearby themed restaurants and the fishermen’s market. To allow visitors to enjoy fresh seafood while taking in the scenery of Lover’s Wharf from the sea, local operators have launched the Blue Highway route “Xingda Harbor Harbor Cruise” every Saturday and Sunday starting October 10.

The cruise connects two new tourist landmarks: the “Future Elephant” at Lover’s Wharf and the “Fishermen’s Market.” Visitors can first walk to the themed restaurant to pick up their tickets, enjoy the views of Lover’s Wharf and the “Future Elephant” art installation, and then head to the dock next to the Xingda Harbor Fishermen’s Association to board the ship. During the 20-minute cruise, passengers can get an up-close view of the waters around Lover’s Wharf, the distinctive buildings of the Coast Guard Administration, various coast guard vessels, and floating fishing homes, providing an alternative way to experience Xingda Fishing Harbor.
