Who was the person who borrowed toilet paper from me in the middle of the night? A true ghost story from the Ailiao Firing Range

As a travel journalist, business trips are a routine part of life, so naturally I’ve heard many ghost stories. But because they’re too close to home, I often try not to listen. That’s why today I want to share a supernatural experience that happened to my friend A-Yang during his military service. According to A-Yang,the Ailiao Firing Range in Pingtung, where many recruits couldn't endure the training and chose to hang themselves, is rife with eerie tales—especially in the bathrooms, which are particularly notorious.

Here’s A-Yang’s account:
I remember it was one summer night. After lights out, I felt a strange discomfort in my stomach and couldn’t fall asleep no matter what. Even though I knew the toilets were far away, I couldn’t help but rush there to relieve myself...

“Hey A-Yang, it’s Xiao Zhang, can you lend me some toilet paper?” A deep voice came from the next stall. Fortunately, I had brought extra, so without thinking much, I reached over to pass it to him.

When I got back to the dorm, I was shocked to find… Xiao Zhang was fast asleep in his bed… It was about 1:44 a.m. So who was the person who just borrowed toilet paper from me?

Sure enough, it seemed the food from the previous day had upset someone else’s stomach too—Xiao Yun also had to go to the bathroom around 2 a.m. He asked Xiao Zhang, “Didn’t you have diarrhea last night too? And you didn’t even bring any toilet paper…” But Xiao Zhang replied, “I didn’t go to the bathroom at all last night!”

Xiao Yun and I were completely stunned—we both had the exact same strange encounter at different times... The creepy part? Who was calling out our names in the middle of the night? And how did they know our names?

That wasn’t even the worst of it. In the middle of the night, we could hear a girl laughing and singing in the restroom. But the only place at the Ailiao Firing Range where a girl might possibly show up is a small convenience store on the way from the firing range back to the barracks. Hearing that gave us goosebumps.
