A group of friends chased their dream to open a restaurant—exotic cuisine near the Lujhu Night Market in Kaohsiung

Along Provincial Highway 1 on the way from Kaohsiung to Tainan, if you’re craving some exotic cuisine, your options are somewhat limited. Today, we’re introducing Little Shepherd Exotic Cuisine, a local favorite located right next to the Lujhu Night Market.

Little Shepherd Exotic Cuisine has its own parking lot right next door.

The interior dining space is comfortable and spacious, with an additional dining area hidden behind the curtains—perfect for larger groups who want to book the whole place out.

As soon as you walk in, there are magazines featuring articles about Little Shepherd—it turns out this is a restaurant opened by five good friends together. It’s truly heartwarming to see friends realizing their dreams together.

Little Shepherd offers a fairly diverse menu.

There are hot pot dishes, pizzas, Chinese and Japanese set meals, and even Japanese N...<饭、义式炖饭还有意大利面。

Besides regular drinks, they also offer several types of Belgian beer.

The meal started off with four glasses of icy vinegar slush to whet everyone’s appetite.

The pasta and risotto come with a choice of salad or soup—the soup was quite rich, while the salad came in a jar, which was kind of adorable.

The Special Diced Beef Steak with Pine Nut & Basil Pasta ($350)—the pesto flavor was quite strong, though a friend said...Chuiyuan at Hanshin Dome 9Fserves better beef, but Mei Ji felt that wasn’t a fair comparison, considering Chuiyuan is a hotel-grade restaurant.

Since there were kids, Shaoxing Mama could only order the Beef Old-Fashioned Clear Chicken Soup Hot Pot ($340), which had a pretty refreshing broth.

Mei Ji opted for the Signature Aged-Flavor Pickled Pepper Chicken Hot Pot, which had a bold, spicy flavor. Shaoxing Mama quite liked it, though Mei Ji wasn’t a fan of the unique spice, so she put all her veggies into Shaoxing Mama’s chicken pot. Fortunately, the chicken meat in the soup was quite good.

Each dish comes with dessert and a drink.

Lujhu is roughly midway between Tainan and Kaohsiung. Restaurants around here aren’t as numerous as in the downtown areas of those cities. Mei Ji thinks Little Shepherd is a great choice for family and friends gatherings, thanks to its cozy atmosphere, on-site parking, and diverse menu. Most dishes even come with dessert and a drink. If you’re visiting Lujhu, give it a try.
