3 Major Routes for a Unique Rural Getaway in Tainan

Following the success of the travel program launched at the end of 2014, the Tainan City Agriculture Bureau will roll out the second wave of programs in February, featuring three distinctive routes: "Loving the Mountain Town," "Green Diamond Trail," and "Sweet Nostalgia." These itineraries allow participants to explore traditional Taiwanese culture, art, agriculture, and fisheries, and experience a “rural mini-travel” that is completely different from urban life.

"Loving the Mountain Town"This route takes travelers to Dongshan’s Nanshan Community and Baihe’s Hushan Community, where they can visit the Longan Baking Kiln Museum, try their hand at DIY osmanthus longan wine bread, tour the cultivation environments of lingzhi mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms, and visit Shanzhi Temple for a creative DIY sachet-making cultural experience.

"Green Diamond Trail"This route heads to Xinhua’s Jiaokeng Community, where participants can learn about the community’s settlement culture and explore historical traces of early settlers’ lives through a former military training ground tunnel experience. A series of olive-related activities are also available, including pickled olive-making, tasting olive heart tea, olive passion fruit, and handmade soap crafting.

"Sweet Nostalgia"This itinerary leads visitors to Jiali’s Yanping Community, Qingkunshen Community, and Qigu’s Longshan Community, where they can explore rural industries and take part in making fried brown sugar and peanut candy, as well as learn about unique seafood—fire-roasted shrimp and dried fish fillets. Participants will also experience the traditional fishing village culture of “Tanganliao,” taste grilled fresh oysters, and enjoy an ecological boat tour on the lake.
