New routes launched: Tigerair Taiwan recruits 150 more flight attendants

Tigerair Taiwan has been operating since September 26, 2014, and currently has nearly 80 flight attendants. To meet the growing demands of fleet expansion and new route openings, the airline held another large-scale recruitment drive this year. The first round of interviews took place today, January 17, at Tigerair Taiwan’s Songshan campus in Taipei. Nearly 6,000 applicants attended, with around 150 expected to be hired — an acceptance rate of just 2.5%.

In 2015, besides continuing to open new routes in Southeast Asia, Tigerair Taiwan will also focus on expanding its services in Northeast Asia. As such, aside from requiring proficiency in Mandarin, Taiwanese, and English, the airline is also looking to recruit candidates who can speak Japanese and Korean fluently, in preparation for future route launches. The core brand values of “sincerity, enthusiasm, and warmth,” along with a strong passion for service, remain key qualities sought in applicants.

The educational requirement for applicants is a high school diploma or higher from domestic or international institutions. This year, 95% of candidates held a college degree or above, including a 19-year-old nursing student and individuals with TOEIC scores as high as 930, representing a diverse range of professional backgrounds. Tigerair Taiwan noted that the overall quality of applicants’ education and experience was high, and final selection will be based on comprehensive performance. Those who pass the first round will qualify for the second-round interviews scheduled for the end of January, which will assess verbal communication skills and quick thinking. Selected candidates will begin receiving training notices starting in March. Upon enrollment, they will undergo nearly two months of comprehensive pre-service training covering both in-flight and ground operations. Only after successfully completing the training will they be eligible to start flying duties.
