Countdown begins！Taitung's Longly Boulevard rapeseed fields — golden velvet blankets spread across the land

A glistening sea of yellow rapeseed flowers, like a golden velvet blanket covering the valley farmlands—how can such beauty fail to captivate? The countdown is on for these seasonally limited, breathtaking rapeseed fields in Hualien-Taitung Valley. Especially in Chishang Township, Taitung, you can still witness vast stretches of blooming rapeseed covering both sides of Longly Boulevard. To capture those radiant yellow views at their most stunning, now is the last chance.

Hsu Yuchang from the Recreation Section of Taitung County Government Tourism Department said that traditionally, farmers begin spring plowing shortly after the Lunar New Year, allowing the beauty of the rapeseed fields to last into the holiday season. However, since this year is a leap year and the Lunar New Year came about a month later than usual, many farmers have recently started their spring farming. As a result, once they till the fields and transplant rice seedlings, the view of the rapeseed blossoms will be gone. Among the three townships in Taitung’s valley region where rapeseed fields can typically be seen, only the area around Longly Boulevard still has large expanses of blooming rapeseed. Hsu also noted that since the actual dates for tilling and transplanting vary depending on individual farms, the best advice is simply for visitors to seize the moment.

In addition, in recent days the southern section of the Huatung Highway near the Golden Needle Mountain, as well as areas along the South Cross-Island Highway, not only feature early-blooming cherry blossoms, but also vibrant peach and plum blossoms vying for attention. Hsu Yuchang encourages those who may have missed the rapeseed blooms to take a trip into the mountains to admire the cherry and plum blossoms. Alternatively, visitors can head to Chishang, Guanshan, Zhiben, or Chenggong—the four major flower seas cultivated under the guidance of the Council of Agriculture—with the Chenggong flower sea being especially recommended for its spectacular “flower sea meeting the sea” view.
