Tainan has added another painted village to its collection. Known as the “Hometown of Stars,” Dajia District in Tainan has themed its murals around the classic cartoon character “Totoro,” incorporating other beloved characters such as Yuanzai and Peter Rabbit, creating a vibrant cartoon-painted village. Additionally, a Dajia Totoro Bus Stop has been set up to invite travelers to take photos and create lasting memories.

Shilin Village in Dajia District is a newly emerging painted village in the Tainan area. Its murals feature well-known cartoon characters such as Totoro holding an umbrella waiting for the bus, along with Yuanzai, Peter Rabbit, Hello Kitty, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Doraemon, and even LINE’s popular Brown and Cony. With the warm greetings of friendly locals, the area is filled with the charm of rural life.

If you’re looking for the Totoro bus stop in the village, it’s located about 100 meters next to the “Shizilai” stop on the Tainan Bus Orange Lines 1 and 2. A sign for the “Dajia Totoro Bus Stop” has been erected by villagers on the utility pole at the alley entrance—just follow the sign to find it.

Currently, the Totoro painted village area is still expanding, with many volunteers painting new murals on red-brick walls, bringing even more color to Shilin Village. Zhang Zhengyuan, Director of Tainan City’s Transportation Bureau, said that the public can also take the Orange Trunk Line bus and get off at the “Dajia District Office” stop, then walk about 600 meters to reach the site. Alternatively, they can plan a bus journey via the Orange Line 2 to also visit the “Grandma’s Painted Village” in Hucuoliao, turning it into a painted village bus tour.
