The Tokyo Central Circular Route to open in March—Shinjuku to Haneda Airport in just 20 minutes!

In the future, you can reach Haneda Airport from Shinjuku in less than half an hour. Japan’s Capital Expressway Public Corporation has announced that the highway "Central Circular Route Yamate Tunnel" will fully open at 4:00 PM on March 7. In the future, traveling from Shinjuku to Haneda Airport will take just 20 minutes!

The Central Circular Route spans a total of 46.6 kilometers and was constructed to divert traffic congestion from central Tokyo and reduce traffic jams. It is listed as one of the three ring roads in the Tokyo metropolitan area, along with the Ken-O Expressway and the Outer Circular Route.

With the full opening of the Central Circular Route, not only will over 40% of traffic be effectively diverted, but the travel time from Shinjuku to Haneda Airport will also be drastically reduced from the previous 40 minutes to just 20 minutes. Once officially opened, the Yamate Tunnel, which is part of the Central Circular Route, will also become Japan’s longest road tunnel.
