A romantic overseas couple in love accomplished something incredibly sweet at Penghu Aquarium

Travel is the lubricant of life. Trips can also mark new beginnings. A photo of Penghu’s Double-Heart Shihhu Rock Pools led to a beautiful romance, culminating in Zhang Jianjun and Huang Xuemei pledging their lives to each other.

Zhang Jianjun from Singapore and Huang Xuemei from Malaysia, an overseas couple deeply in love, were captivated by a photo of Penghu’s Double-Heart Shihhu Rock Pools set against blue skies and clear seas. After searching online, they traveled to Penghu to embark on an unforgettable proposal journey.

Wu Zhaohui, CEO of MyTaiwanTour, who helped plan the couple’s proposal itinerary, said Zhang Jianjun wanted to propose in secret under the guise of a birthday celebration, aiming to give his girlfriend a surprise she’d never forget. He hoped to make a lifelong commitment in this romantic destination. While not as extravagant as Jay Chou and Hannah Quinlivan’s proposal, the sincerity and dreaminess definitely surpassed the pop star’s romantic flair. For this magical and surprising life event, the groom specially invited family and friends to fly all the way to Taiwan to arrange this proposal trip.

Unfortunately, the birthday celebration fell in November, during Penghu’s winter when the weather was unfavorable. The original plan to propose in front of the Double-Heart Shihhu Rock Pools in Qimei had to be changed to an indoor location—Penghu Aquarium. But then the aquarium happened to be closed for maintenance. Not wanting the couple’s dreamy proposal to turn into a bubble, the staff kept negotiating with the aquarium management and eventually persuaded them to open the venue just for this special occasion. They prepared flowers and props for the setup and, during the fish-feeding show, arranged for a diver to unveil the proposal banner underwater, kicking off this surprise-filled romantic proposal.

During the aquarium’s fish-feeding show, when the diver slowly pulled out the proposal banner with the bride-to-be Huang Xuemei’s name in the large tank, the guests erupted in cheers. The groom held up a bouquet of flowers and got down on one knee to propose in front of the ocean tank. The surrounding friends and family cheered him on, and the bride, moved to tears, said yes. She put on the ring and shared a passionate kiss. With the blessings of family, guests, and even the surrounding fish, this cross-border marine romance proposal came to a beautiful close.
