Plane crash after drop-off at airport — Bereaved family of TransAsia passenger cries: Where is my sister?

At 10:56 a.m. on the 4th, TransAsia Airways Flight GE235 crashed into the Keelung River behind the Nangang Exhibition Center. As of 5:00 p.m., the death toll stood at 16 (6 died at the scene, and 10 showed no signs of life upon arrival at the hospital), with injured passengers being taken to hospitals such as Tri-Service General Hospital in Neihu for emergency treatment.

The younger brother of a female passenger surnamed Zheng (born in 1956) was very anxious at Terminal 2 of Songshan Airport because he had not yet received any news about his sister’s safety. Aside from anxiety and anger, Mr. Zheng also expressed deep dissatisfaction with TransAsia Airways’ consecutive crashes and the way they have handled the incidents.

According to Mr. Zheng, earlier on the morning of February 4th, he drove his sister from their northern residence to Songshan Airport so she could take a TransAsia flight to Kinmen for business. After seeing her off, he returned home. Just as he lay down to rest, he saw media reports about the TransAsia crash and immediately drove to the airport to find out more.

Mr. Zheng revealed that although he had been waiting since 11 a.m. and had asked multiple times, there was still no news about his sister. Watching the disaster unfold in the news reports made him feel both angry and heartbroken. He stated that he is just an ordinary citizen who only wants to fly safely, but TransAsia’s repeated air disasters have made him fearful. Furthermore, if the crashes were due to human error, he believes TransAsia is absolutely unforgivable. He also criticized the airline’s emergency response measures, saying they merely acted like a “black box,” gathering family members together while providing no transparent information.

As time ticked by, Mr. Zheng said that he and his parents were trying to stay strong while waiting for news, but he also asked reporters on-site, “If I bought you 20 TransAsia tickets right now, would you dare to take them?”
