Free manicures and shoe shining while waiting in line — Mainland China’s hotpot chain Haidilao opens in Taipei

The mainland Chinese hotpot restaurant “Haidilao,” renowned for its top-notch service, is coming to Taipei. In addition to its affordable prices and delicious broth, Haidilao is especially famous for its wide range of unexpectedly thoughtful services. For example, there are free manicure and shoe shining services at the entrance for customers waiting to be seated. After using the restroom, guests are given warm towels, and there’s even a childcare service available.

According to official information, Haidilao Catering was established in 1994, primarily serving Sichuan-style hotpot while also incorporating regional hotpot characteristics. It currently has 109 directly operated stores across mainland China. Internationally, it has two branches in Singapore, one in Los Angeles, USA, and one in Seoul, South Korea. Its first Taiwanese branch is expected to be located on the 6th floor of ATT 4 FUN in Taipei’s Xinyi District. As for the opening date, ATT 4 FUN stated that the store has not yet finalized the timing, but the space is currently under renovation. Since South Beauty previously occupied the 6th floor of ATT 4 FUN before relocating due to contract expiration, Haidilao may be taking over the same space, which is about 300+ ping in size.

Haidilao’s innovative waiting services are not only unprecedented in mainland China but also rare in Taiwan. From free manicures and shoe shining to board games and card games, along with complimentary snacks and drinks, there's no chance of getting bored while waiting. Once seated, the service remains prompt and attentive — from serving fruit to providing bibs, hair ties (for women), and phone pouches to prevent splashes. Waitstaff frequently check in to ensure a pleasant dining experience.

Huang Meng-chen, marketing director at Aiwan TianDi who has dined at Haidilao in mainland China, said that there are plenty of free services to enjoy while waiting, making the time fly by. She even experienced the special service of having her shoulders massaged in the restroom. Huang added that if you bring children, the restaurant will also help take care of them.
