For young people and office workers who love barbecue, all-you-can-eat barbecue restaurants are the easiest to catch their attention. But for those who prioritize food quality and health, à la carte barbecue joints are their top choice. In Taoyuan, I discovered Mi Barbecue, which perfectly meets the demands of foodies. The most important dining philosophy at Mi Barbecue is 【slow food】, as the hospitable owner, Mr. Yu, hopes that guests dining here can enjoy their meal without rushing, savoring slow food and gathering joyfully with family and friends.

Mi Barbecue is located diagonally across from Taoyuan Regent Hotel, with a bus stop right at the entrance for convenient access. Because of this, the shop’s layout and decor are relatively upscale. The operator, Mr. Yu, originally worked in finance and was already a six-figure-salary executive. Due to his love for barbecue, having tried it all over Taiwan, he started this solo business with full support from his father and family.

Mr. Yu is very thoughtful—hidden under the main signboard are seats where waiting customers can take a short rest. Led by food critic Guo Renrong, it was my first visit to Mi Barbecue. The moment we stepped in, we were drawn to the decor and also amazed by the refreshing lack of barbecue smell. It turns out Mr. Yu uses under-fired smokeless grills throughout the restaurant.

Although the price is higher than traditional overhead grills, it ensures that customers don’t leave smelling like grilled meat.

While taking photos of the shop’s interior, we noticed several uniquely styled paintings near the ceiling. Mr. Yu explained: “These are traditional Japanese handmade kites, specially sourced from Japan.”

On the liquor display shelf, the owner placed a ukulele, hinting at his love for music.

When ordering, the owner recommended we go for a set meal and then add a few individual favorites.

The ordering system is quite professional—this way, two people can try more delicious items. In the end, we sampled nine out of the store’s top 10 dishes, several of which were incredibly tasty and worth recommending.

Here, they use charcoal grilling. Whenever food sticks to the grill, the staff promptly replaces it with a new one—not only to avoid flavor mixing between fresh meats and seafood but also as an extension of health-conscious practices.

First up was the wagyu pork with marbling. The chef brushed on a special seasoning, and after grilling, no sauce was needed—the pork’s unique chewiness and subtle spice flavors shone through. Absolutely delicious; we even ordered another portion later.

Wagyu pork with marbling is my favorite.

The wild clams were almost fist-sized, with a sweet, delicate taste—you can’t get them every day, as availability depends on the catch.

The snowflake beef is Choice grade.

Korean-style kimchi and barbecue are a perfect match—sliced Australian wagyu ribeye cap.

The texture differs from the snowflake beef, yet it’s equally captivating. The premium beef tongue was my first time trying it; a squeeze of lemon juice made it even better.

Grilled prawns

Grilled scallops cooked to 80% doneness—exceptionally sweet.

Mentaiko chicken wings

Japanese yam—grilled, it tastes especially delicious.

For dessert, the grilled sweet potato? Wait, no—the sweet potato and taro were served warm, creating a perfect ending. The guests left with a supremely satisfying experience.
Reviewer (Entertainment Host): The meat and ingredients at Mi Barbecue were genuinely high-quality on the day I visited. The decor goes all out with smokeless under-fired tables and chairs—the spacing between tables is also wide enough—though there are no private rooms, the spaciousness while dining is still fully felt. This is something even à la carte barbecue spots in Taipei can’t achieve!!! Even my sister, who doesn’t eat beef, said it was so good she immediately booked her next visit—looking forward to returning to Mi Barbecue again. (P.S. Thanks to co-author Sister Guan for sharing!)
