Can you make it out? Dubai’s super-cool vertical maze tower sets a Guinness World Record

Some say Dubai is extravagant, others say it’s extremely flashy, but we really have to admit that Dubai is one of the few places in the world that develops tourism in such an unconventional way: it doesn’t have fantasy castles straight out of a princess story, it doesn’t go for the hipster coffee vibe along some xx river, and it rarely introduces ultra-cute animals designed to max out your camera roll—but it always manages, as usual, to attract attention with its extraordinary buzz. In addition to the world’s highest observation deck, the underwater Atlantis, and the Crescent Moon Tower, and yes, you read that right, it’s a giant maze that even glows brilliantly at night.

According to entertainment website Amusing Planet,this 57-story skyscraper, called the “Maze Tower,” is located on Sheikh Zayed Road. The building was completed in January 2012 and features massive mazes on both its front and back sides. The design, created by the Al Rostamani Group, earned the Guinness World Record for the “World’s Largest Vertical Maze.”

Constructed primarily with stone, the materials were hand-selected based on their appearance and texture. The maze design is definitely not random but was crafted by maze designer Adrian Fisher, using balconies from different rooms and offices. At night, it lights up with dazzling LED lights, and there’s also an eight-meter-high circular screen at the top used to display images.

Regarding the concept of the Maze Tower, “We always wanted the Maze Tower itself to be like a stone sculpture, bringing it to life through light and shadow,” said the Deputy CEO of the Maze Tower project.
