For some reason, apart from wanting to own classic cameras and take great shots, photographers also seem to dream of opening their own coffee shops? When Wisely visited Kaohsiung last year, they came to this ‘Camera Coffee’ through an introduction by a local friend, but this time things were different — the revisit was at a new location, having moved from its original site in the Xinxing District to here in the Sanmin District, right in the heart of Camera Street, and the overall style has also changed dramatically Up !

The relocated Camera Coffee is now located at No. 183-4, Jianguo 2nd Rd., right next door to the Nikon Southern Region flagship store, Guowei Digital Technology. This area is reminiscent of Taipei’s Hankou Street, with quite a few camera shops around.

In terms of style, it has shifted from the retro coffeehouse vibe to an American-style café bar. Although there are a few tables set up under the arcade, it’s mainly a takeout-oriented place; and they’ve hired a few cheerful staff members to help out.

Prices are around NT$100, and in addition to coffee and tea, they also offer light meals and snacks …

That day I ordered an iced Ranch Latte, which is the shop’s signature drink — it tasted pretty good and had a nice aroma.

Due to limited space, it wasn’t possible to display as many items as in the old shop, but the theme still centers around “photography + coffee.” As a result, the clientele has become a gathering spot for photography enthusiasts, and it also seems like a great place for in-person camera gear exchanges. XD

I asked the owner if they’d consider opening a second branch to revive the original style somewhere else, and the answer was a definite yes … Actually, Wisely would also love to open a shop like this, but lacks the capital and is also afraid it might not be profitable ! Orz

There are still a few old cameras placed in the corner of the café, each capturing different lights and shadows and many stories. It’s actually quite nice to have such a place to sit, chat, and unwind.

This visit was short, but I was really happy to hang out and chat with my local travel photography buddies. Some of them have already traveled together to Japan and India, and they’re planning another trip to Thailand for independent travel. They’ve also started discussing whether to go even further afield by the end of the year. Having such a space is truly wonderful — maybe the venue is a bit small, but it’s a big dream for photography-loving shop owners, and it’s really enviable !
