Last updated 2026-09-24 — Uncle Chicken is a chain of fried food shops across the province, but they’re rarely seen in downtown Kaohsiung. It wasn’t until one day when we passed by Section 1, Guangfu Road, Fengshan, that we spotted a branch. Uncle Chicken is a chain of fried food shops across the province, but they’re rarely seen in downtown Kaohsiung. It wasn’t until one day when we passed by Section 1, Guangfu Road, Fengshan, that we spotted a branch. Actually, we had already had dinner, but it wasn’t a pleasant meal, so purely out of a desire to make up for it, we decided to give Uncle Chicken a try.

Unlike traditional fast food joints or regular salt-and-pepper chicken stalls, the store is quite professional in terms of its storefront and product display. They even have small tables and chairs set up under the arcade, which is very considerate when you’re waiting.

The fried items are all displayed in transparent refrigerated cabinets, making them clear at a glance, and the prices are also clearly marked. They even have American-style fried chicken, which you’d usually only find at fast food chains, catering to those who love fried chicken.

There are plenty of options, and the prices for small, medium, and large portions are all indicated.

There are also quite a few vegetable options, some of which are even cheaper than those at traditional salt-and-pepper chicken shops.

The specialty of this shop is the Sichuan spicy flavor. In addition to the regular-flavored salt-and-pepper chicken, we also tried the Sichuan flavor combo, which came in two large bags for a total of 175 NT dollars. The Sichuan spicy flavor isn’t seasoned with dry powder but is more like mixing Sichuan spicy sauce with the fried food. The sauce is slightly moist, very spicy, and I’d say it’s at the level of extra hot. Spicy food lovers can definitely give it a try.

The shop’s frying skills are also pretty good — the fried items are not greasy and come out dry and crisp. The squid doesn’t taste too tough either; instead, it’s soft and chewy, and quite delicious.

The shop’s popular item is the triangle bone — the outer layer is crispy enough, and the bone is probably pre-marinated, making the chicken flavorful and tasty. It pairs well with beer or a drink.

The American-style fried chicken wings are super tempting — at first glance, they really do look exactly like those from a certain well-known fried chicken brand. The crust is crispy, no doubt, and it’s the kind of finger-licking good that you just can’t put down.

The shop probably operates from the afternoon until the evening. Compared to traditional salt-and-pepper chicken stalls, this chain store pays more attention to cleanliness and hygiene in both the environment and ingredients. The Sichuan spicy-flavored salt-and-pepper chicken breaks away from conventional ideas and is quite creative. It tastes great, but for us, it was honestly too spicy. For those who think they can handle the heat, it’s definitely worth a challenge. Recommended to everyone.
