Eric Chu Promotes Taiwan at Singapore Travel Fair, Showcasing the Beauty of Greater Taipei Through Local Attractions and Specialties

The Singapore Spring International Travel Fair is currently in full swing. New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu also served as a tourism ambassador this time, appearing at the fair on the 7th to promote the beauty of Greater Taipei to Singaporeans. At the same time, the New Taipei City Government issued an open invitation to the public in Singapore and Malaysia, launching the “Are you the New Taipei City Traveller?” tourism ambassador selection campaign, which became a major highlight at the Singapore Travel Fair.

The “2015 Singapore Spring International Travel Fair” kicked off on the 6th at Hall 8 of the Singapore EXPO, with nearly 80 booths from local tourism operators and countries including Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea participating. Mayor Chu personally led a delegation to the fair to promote Greater Taipei tourism. In addition to visiting the Taiwan Pavilion booth, he also brought “Shou Xin Fang Pineapple Cakes,” which have been awarded as presidential gifts, and Pouchong tea from Pinglin in New Taipei, allowing Singaporean attendees to sample them. He also strongly recommended Taiwanese delicacies such as beef noodles and braised pork rice. Mayor Chu’s presence attracted a large crowd, with many eager to take group photos with him, and some even inviting him to take selfies together.

Mayor Chu noted that in recent years, there has been a growing trend of Singaporean travelers visiting Taiwan independently, with many enjoying trips to the Greater Taipei area. He himself has several Singaporean friends who have experienced short trips to Jiufen and Pingxi in New Taipei City, and thus sincerely invited people from Singapore and Malaysia to visit Taiwan.

In addition, the New Taipei City Government Tourism Bureau this year adopted the theme “Explore New Taipei City” for its promotional campaign, combining the three major characteristics of New Taipei—Nature, Culture, and Hospitality—to plan nine themed travel routes tailored to the preferences of Singaporean and Malaysian travelers. At the same time, they issued an open invitation, offering attractive rewards including up to NT$120,000 in prize money and a fantastic two-week free trip to New Taipei, in search of tourism ambassadors. The campaign garnered significant attention and discussion among netizens as soon as it launched.

The Singapore Spring International Travel Fair runs until March 8. In addition to sampling New Taipei delicacies such as pineapple cakes, Pouchong tea, and plum jellies, exhibition booths also provide brochures and consultation services for travel in Taipei and New Taipei. Visitors to the booths also have the chance to receive unique New Taipei souvenirs, aiming to help Singaporean and Malaysian travelers learn more about Taiwan and take action to visit.
