Gunma Unveils Japan’s First “Hello Kitty-Themed Onsen,” Open Only to Women

Hello Kitty’s charm is irresistible. Following the creation of Hello Kitty theme parks, themed cafés, and special hotel room packages, Japan has now introduced the country’s first “Hello Kitty” onsen in Gunma Prefecture — and it’s exclusively for women.

Located within Gunma Prefecture, Yumoto Grand Hotel is famed for its Yumoto Onsen, one of Japan’s three great therapeutic hot springs known for its skin-beautifying effects. Starting this January, the hotel partnered with the Sanrio Family to launch the “Fairy Tale Onsen” on the rooftop of Seishōkan, one of its buildings. The onsen not only offers scenic views in the distance but is also entirely decorated with the globally beloved Hello Kitty. Guests can relax in the bath while being accompanied by Hello Kitty dressed in a yukata and take in the beautiful landscape outside the windows.

The hotel also operates a Hello Kitty-themed café, serving Kitty-shaped curry rice, pancakes, set meals, a specially made Kitty jelly available only here, as well as coffee topped with foam featuring a Kitty latte art design — letting fans spend a relaxing day with their favorite feline character.
