Purple waterfalls cascade down trellises — the "Ruili Wisteria Flower Festival" kicks off in Chiayi

The Alishan Flower Festival has now begun. In addition to the sea of cherry blossoms blanketing the hills, the wisteria flowers cascading down trellises in the Ruili area have also entered their blooming season. The "2015 Ruili Wisteria Flower Festival" is now underway in the Ruili Scenic Area, allowing visitors to enjoy cherry blossoms and then head to Ruili to experience the purple charm of wisteria.

The Ruili Scenic Area in Meishan Township, Chiayi County, sits at an altitude of about 1,000 meters with fresh air and clean water. Over 20 years ago, local homestay operators introduced wisteria plants from Japan and have carefully cultivated them. After years of growth, it has become a “purple paradise” in the hearts of many travelers.

In addition, the Chiayi County Cultural Affairs Bureau also recommends several scenic spots for a combined visit. For example, Ruili Yuantan Ecological Park preserves a rich ecosystem with streams, gravel, cliffs, and deep valleys, offering expansive views — a top choice for family outings. The Green Tunnel features towering Moso bamboo, laurel bamboo, and fir forests stretching along both sides of the tunnel into the distance, with the play of light and shadow among the bamboo creating a tranquil atmosphere that helps one forget worries. Meanwhile, trails such as the Taigu Trail, Ruili Eight Scenic Spots Trail, Youth Ridge Trail, and Wild Ginger Flower Creek Trail each offer unique landscapes, perfect for adventurous hikers.

Compared to the longer blooming period of cherry blossoms, wisteria flowers only bloom for a brief 20-day season. Take advantage of the period from now until April 10th to visit the Alishan Cherry Blossom Festival and the "Ruili Wisteria Flower Festival," immersing yourself in the beauty of spring sunlight and swaying wisteria vines.
