Hualien residents, take note: The colorful "Monster Thai Shaved Ice" is back from Fengjia Night Market!

The "Monsters Thai Shaved Ice," originally located in Happy Star at Fengjia Night Market, has recently made its way to Hualien, successfully establishing this creative frozen treat in eastern Taiwan. The shop has just opened, capitalizing on the last wave of summer ice cream cravings. Many local customers are quite curious about this unique ice. In fact, the reason this shop moved to Hualien is simply because a father deeply missed his son.

With stable business at Fengjia Night Market, why return to Hualien to open a shop? Even at the risk of "starting all over again," the owner resolutely made the decision—simply because he couldn’t resist his father’s heartfelt plea. "On Father’s Day, I spoke to my dad on the phone, and he told me that I’d been away for so many years and hoped I would come back." He was a bit hesitant at first, but felt maybe it was time. "I hope my childhood friends in Hualien can also try the shaved ice I make myself!" he said with a glimmer in his eyes.

The shop is located next to the railway tracks. Unlike before, the store is now equipped with air conditioning. On a gloomy afternoon, sitting by the window enjoying your ice treat while watching trains speed by can feel like a moment of peace—perhaps even carrying your worries away with them.

The shop’s method of making shaved ice is also quite unique. Fresh fruits and toppings are first placed on a -20°C ice plate, then a vanilla-flavored base mixture is slowly poured over the top. Visually, it resembles giving the fruit a milk bath—quite soothing. Then, using a tool, they quickly whip it up—"Slap, slap, slap, slap!" The rapid, rhythmic sounds often draw the attention of customers in the store.

After evenly mixing, the ice is spread out on the plate and then scraped up with an ice shovel, topped with decorations—thus completing the dessert. Since everything is made fresh to order, preparing a single serving takes about two minutes, which often requires customers to wait patiently during peak hours.

In terms of texture, the ice blend is rich due to the mixed fruits. The fruity aroma isn’t overpowered by the sweetness, and the various fruit textures offer layers of flavor, preventing the taste from becoming monotonous.
