A seven-story-tall "miniature Taipei 101" to join Japan's Miniature World, set to debut in October

Is Taipei 101 about to become the world’s tallest building again? Taipei 101 has announced a collaboration with Tobu World Square, known as Japan’s “Miniature World,” to create a 21-meter-tall scaled-down version of the iconic skyscraper. The miniature is expected to be unveiled at the theme park on October 4 this year, and will become the tallest structure within the park.

Tobu World Square is located in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan — a city home to many UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It’s a popular theme park that features a collection of miniature versions of famous buildings from around the world. Since its opening in 1993, the park has housed 102 renowned structures, including 45 World Heritage Sites, all meticulously reproduced at a 1:25 scale. Kaohsiung’s Dragon and Tiger Pagodas in Lotus Pond have also been part of the collection for some time.

Although smaller in size, the scaled-down model of Taipei 101 still stands an impressive 21 meters tall — about seven stories high. Once it officially joins Tobu World Square, it will become the tallest building in the park and will stand in the distance alongside a miniature version of Tokyo Skytree.

The Tobu Group in Japan stated that many Japanese visitors to the park had previously asked, “Why isn’t Taipei 101 here?” This feedback prompted them to accelerate their collaboration with Taipei 101, and the project is finally coming to fruition this year. The aim is to enhance tourism and cultural exchange between Taiwanese and Japanese visitors through the inclusion of Taipei 101 in the park.
