As the weather gradually warms up, the Yoshino cherry blossoms at Tianyuan Temple in Tamsui have begun to bloom one after another, attracting many foreign tourists and photography enthusiasts on a pilgrimage. The Yoshino cherry blossoms, which typically bloom from early March to the end of the month, are currently about 50% in bloom and are expected to be in full bloom this week. Travelers hoping to witness the romantic “sea of pink blossoms” should seize the opportunity.

In recent years, the renowned cherry blossom destination Tianyuan Temple has also developed a dedicated cherry blossom garden in the back mountain. By grafting Japanese Yoshino cherry varieties onto native mountain cherry trees, the garden is now covered with tender white and pink Yoshino blossoms. The blooming Yoshino cherries interweave beautifully with the temple itself. Aside from Yoshino cherries, the garden also plants azaleas for visitors to admire, and the vividly colored blooms further accentuate the elegance of the cherry blossoms.
On holidays, Tianyuan Temple can attract tens of thousands of visitors, and the temple mobilizes over 300 volunteers to maintain order.Temple staff also urge cherry blossom viewers to avoid pulling on cherry tree branches while taking photos and to refrain from making loud noises that might disturb nearby residents. Trash bins are placed throughout the park—please make use of them.

To manage the heavy traffic during the Tianyuan Temple cherry blossom season, flexible vehicle entry controls will be implemented from 08:00 to 16:00 on weekends and holidays starting in March, depending on traffic conditions along Beixin Road (Route 101) and parking lot capacity. Travelers planning to head up the mountainare advised to take the paid shuttle bus from Exit 2 of Tamsui MRT Station, boarding at Platforms 7 and 8. Buses run approximately every 10–15 minutes from 08:00 to 16:30, with the last bus departing Tianyuan Temple at 17:00. If the shuttle is too crowded, you may also take bus routes 875, 876, 866, or 877 to reach your destination. Travelers are encouraged to use public transportation to visit Tianyuan Temple conveniently and enjoy the cherry blossoms with ease.
