Mastering the flavors just right – “Find Meal 2” handcrafts over 60% of its sauces and fillings

Last updated 2026-09-26 — Specialty breakfast shops in Taipei keep popping up one after another. The well-known “Find Meal Shop” in Da’an District has opened its second branch (Find Meal 2) in an alley behind Taipei Medical University. With its simple and unadorned decor, the only downside is the limited seating. The menu here differs from that of a typical breakfast shop. Shop owner Huang Ying-hui says many items are specially designed, and over 60% of the sauces and fillings are handmade. This allows for more precise flavor control—for example, the caramel is slowly cooked from No. 2 sugar.

Specialty breakfast shops in Taipei keep popping up one after another. The well-known “Find Meal Shop” in Da’an District has opened its second branch (Find Meal 2) in an alley behind Taipei Medical University. With its simple and unadorned decor, the only downside is the limited seating. The menu here differs from that of a typical breakfast shop. Shop owner Huang Ying-hui says many items are specially designed, and over 60% of the sauces and fillings are handmade, allowing for more accurate flavor control—like the caramel, which is slowly cooked from No. 2 sugar.

Huang Ying-hui says he once failed in his first entrepreneurial attempt, so when he chose to start again, he had a clear blueprint from the start. He prioritizes quality over location, believing that good food will attract customers even if the shop is off the beaten path. Having previously worked in the pastry industry, he also brings past experience and creativity into developing breakfast menus.

▲Hand-stir-fried peanut fragments.

Take the shop’s signature dish, the “Peanut Butter Pork Chop Cheeseburger” (NT$70), for example. Aside from regular peanut butter, what truly impresses is the sweet and crispy peanut fragments. Huang Ying-hui explains that these are made by chopping whole peanuts, then dry-frying them with sugar. The moisture in the peanuts evaporates during frying, while the sugar caramelizes and coats the fragments, resulting in their crunchy-sweet texture. Paired with peanut butter and cheese, the layers of flavor become even richer.

▲The salted egg topping on the caramel French toast offers a sweet-and-salty twist.

To offer diverse dishes, Huang Ying-hui believes in the importance of experimental spirit. When developing new menu items, he explores all possibilities. For instance, he once wondered if adding some ingredients could enhance the flavor of French toast. His wife, who was making salted egg congee, casually asked, “Why not add salted egg?” Most people might have thought it was a joke, but Huang gave it a try—and the result was a perfect match between the sweetness of caramel and the saltiness of the egg. As for the caramel, Huang says they make it in-house and then mix in condensed milk, giving it a taste more akin to “milk candy.”

Find Meal 2 also offers hot-pressed sandwiches, which are less commonly seen on the market. The pressing process seals the fillings inside the bread, allowing for more generous portions and preventing the fillings from falling out as easily. Huang Ying-hui says each hot press machine costs NT$18,000, and he bought two to handle peak dining hours.
