Flying economy internationally can indeed be a bit cramped — you’ll have to ask your neighbor to move over just to get to the restroom, and you’ll need to take a big step to get out of your seat. There’s not much you can do about it, as not everyone can afford first class. But with a few tricks, you can still achieve a nearly first-class experience. Here arethe internationally renowned travel magazine Travelerfor you to consider.

1. Bring some food on board
For long-haul flights lasting over ten hours, it’s a good idea to prepare some snacks in advance, such as nuts, dried fruit, or meat sticks. Salads and sandwiches are also good options, but it’s best to avoid burgers, wraps, or fried foods. If you don’t want your seatmates enjoying fragrant, greasy food next to you, then don’t bring them yourself either.

2. Drink a little alcohol
Many doctors don’t recommend drinking too much alcohol at high altitudes, but having one or two drinks can help you relax.

3. Choose your clothing wisely
Wear loose, comfortable clothes on the plane, but skip flip-flops or crocs. Remember to wear socks and bring a pair of casual shoes. You can also switch to the complimentary slippers provided by the hotel for added comfort.

4. Reduce noise
A smooth flight means avoiding the sound of airplane engines, crying babies, chatty passengers, and snoring business travelers. To make this dream a reality, put on your headphones. Bose, Sennheiser,
Sony, and Beats are all great choices.

5. Bring some sleep aids
A neck pillow can help you sleep better, and a scarf or blanket can keep you warm. You might also want to pack an eye mask. If you plan to use the airline’s pillow, bring your own pillowcase for added cleanliness.

6. Pack personal items with ease
At security checkpoints, you’ll find small transparent bags for carrying personal items like toothpaste, toothbrushes, moisturizer, lip balm, hand cream, medication, razors, combs, and more. Just remember not to exceed the liquid limit.
